Turns out, it was the caliber movie that rewards in kind the minimal effort I put in to finding it. This slow-burn of a psychosexual thriller … Continue reading Earthquake Bird

Decades Blogathon — Empire of the Sun (1987)
Welcome back around to another week in 'Decades.' Lucky Number Seven may be entering into its final stretch these next few days, but it bears worth mentioning again -- it's been another really fun event for me and my wonderful co-host Mark of Three Rows Back. There were so many things to choose from -- evidenced by … Continue reading Decades Blogathon — Empire of the Sun (1987)
Decades Blogathon – The Lost Boys (1987)
Here’s a reblog of Thoughts All Sorts’ review of The Lost Boys to wrap up Day 3 in the 2017 Decades Blogathon. You’ll find this review on my esteemed co-host’s site, Three Rows Back. Thanks everyone!
We’re onto Day 3 of the Decades Blogathon – ‘7’ edition – hosted by myself and Tom from the brilliant blog Thomas J.The blogathon focuses on movies that were released in the seventh year of the decade. Tom and I are running a different entry each day (we’ll also reblog the other’s post) and for today we’re tracking back to a movie where the hair was biiiig and there was death by stereo in 1987’s horror comedy The Lost Boys, covered by Catherine from Thoughts All Sorts.
Those ’80s. They were something weren’t they? I had a real good chuckle while watching The Lost Boys (1987) again. Had forgotten about the hairstyles, clothes and general ’80s feel. Remember those big Swatch wall watches?
This is one that I probably watch more for nostalgic value than anything else. I clearly remember being allowed to rent two videos…

20th Century Women
Release: Friday, January 20, 2017 [Theater] Written by: Mike Mills Directed by: Mike Mills Fun seems like a clumsy word to describe a film trading in themes such as female empowerment and disaffected youth. But let's call it what it is; 20th Century Women IS fun. Enlightening, entertaining, satisfying, significant -- all the above. It celebrates maturity and individuality with … Continue reading 20th Century Women
Blindspot 2017
Peer pressure strikes again, people. I'm doing a Blindspot list this year. That's right. Twelve films, one reviewed per month. I've seen so many fascinating lists over the past several years and finally I think I'm ready to tackle one of my own. It's an inspired idea, and someone should get a sticker or something … Continue reading Blindspot 2017
Hands of Stone
Release: Friday, August 26, 2016 [Theater] Written by: Jonathan Jakubowicz Directed by: Jonathan Jakubowicz Confession time: coming into this I had no idea who Roberto Durán was -- ya know, other than the fact he would be the center of attention in Jonathan Jakubowicz's boxing drama. Do I feel silly now. Long story short, the Panamanian has been … Continue reading Hands of Stone
The Infiltrator
Release: Wednesday, July 13, 2016 [Theater] Written by: Ellen Brown Furman Directed by: Brad Furman Brad Furman wasn't looking to infiltrate more elite groups of directors who had earlier tackled the gritty but ever fascinating subject of the drug trafficking epidemic in America when he paired up with Bryan Cranston. That much is clear just based on the relative nonchalance … Continue reading The Infiltrator
Decades Blogathon – About Last Night (1986)
And of course, I extend the courtesy once more to my co-host Three Rows Back by re-blogging the article you can find over there today. Again, apologies for such a late turn-around here. Please don’t be mad at me. Pretty please?
We’re in the final(ish) straight of the Decades Blogathon – 6 edition – hosted by myself and the legend that is Tom from Digital Shortbread. The blogathon focuses on movies that were released in the sixth year of the decade. Tom and I are running a different entry each day (we’ll also reblog the other’s post) and today I’m pleased to welcome Gill from the colourfully titled Realweegiemidget, who rewinds back to the ’80s for About Last Night (1986).
In a bid to narrow it down to a specific movie and after much deliberation, I decided on reviewing a film I could gitter for 700+ words. Options included the much reviewed The Breakfast Club (1985) starring Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson – hell yeah, punches fist in air – or as my friend in blogging suggested a lesser known one – Oxford Blues (1984) with Rob…
